Craft Shows can be Profitable for Unemployed Artists
New York, NY February 5, 2004-–"Street Fairs are Out and Craft Shows are In" says Caroline Fernandes of Caroline's Guide to Arts & Crafts Shows and Festivals. "Crafts are big business," according to the Craft Organization Directors Association (CODA), who surveyed the fine crafts market, and found that it's "a $13.8 billion industry." Any artist interested in making money this year should consider being in an Arts & Craft show. Caroline's Guide to Art & Craft Shows and Festival a good place to locate these shows. Caroline's Guide is the best and most cost effective source available ($15) with useful information such as dates, deadlines, attendance and contact information for the entire Arts & Crafts Season (Spring-Fall). Caroline's Guide will be available at selected locations (to be determined later). For more information call 718 797 9606 or emailing carolinescraftsguide@yahoo.com
According to the CODA survey, 60 percent of gross annual sales/revenue is generated within the maker's home state. This guide, which covers New York City and State, is good news for New York Artists. After seeing the decline of street fairs being reduced to selling socks and one dollar items, high quality artisans need to go to where their art is appreciated." Whether you're an artist or craftsperson, you'll benefit by purchasing Caroline's Guide. No newcomer to craft shows can go without this guide. The guide is presented in an easy to read format. Caroline's compilation will save artists hours of time researching shows and provide information they might not get otherwise. And, as an additional service, Caroline is also offering customized lists for artists that have individual needs regarding specific by type of show (antique shows, flea markets) and/or by location (city or state) or by time (day or month).
"My job is to sort out the best and most attended shows so the artists can be seen and make money. The attendees of craft shows usually have a higher income and appreciate hand made and original art. I think many people would rather support an individual artist then buy something from a department store – it's a win win – customers get something unique and the artist gets a sale and their work gets exposed and admired."
Caroline was a Festival Consultant with the West Side Chamber of Commerce where she produced two of the largest street fairs in New York City. She then went on to publish The Vendor Insider, a listing for exhibitors of Street Fairs in New York and New Jersey.
